چکیده

This paper describes the development of an innovative instrumented and automated 2.45GHz multimode microwave cavity for sintering uranium oxide based nuclear fuels (UO2, (U,Pu)O2, (U,Am)O2 …). The cell were designed using Finite Element simulation expertise acquired over years on heating. original setup allows hybrid homogeneous heating fuels. Reliable in situ monitoring samples' shrinkage temperature is performed with optical dilatometer infrared pyrometers calibrated a specific protocol. A dedicated software including Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controller was developed to precisely control cycles like under conventional also operating glovebox reducing atmosphere. stable controlled reached successfully sinter UO2 crack free pellets high density. key point innovation compared previous studies literature ceramics. pellets' final densities are equivalent those obtained sintering, but significant decrease total duration cycle.

Microwave Sintering of Thermistor Ceramics

Microwave sintering is a new sintering technology developed in the middle to late period of the 1980’s, which is characterized by fast densification for ceramic materials[1]. In recent years, microwave heating has been well employed in the field of sintering and joining of ceramics as a result of its advantages against conventional methods. These ceramic materials include oxides, mixed oxides, ...

Optimized Single-Mode Cavity for Ceramics Sintering

In this paper, we present a novel method of optimization of a single-mode cavity used for sintering ceramics. The goal of the optimization is to maximize the electric energy stored in the dielectric and minimize spatial variations of tashis field in the domain occupied by the material. Results of simulations of two configurations are discussed.

Microwave Sintering of Ceramics for Dentistry: Part 2

Each tooth was then placed upon the reticulated zirconia in the thermal containment box and the technique of Microwave Hybrid Heating (MHH) was applied. The temperature measurements were taken every two minutes. We attempted to sinter the teeth in the microwave furnace with both fast and gradual heating rate (per minute) by manipulating the power rate. The power was increased gradually for few ...

On the Mechanism of Microwave Flash Sintering of Ceramics

The results of a study of ultra-rapid (flash) sintering of oxide ceramic materials under microwave heating with high absorbed power per unit volume of material (10-500 W/cm³) are presented. Ceramic samples of various compositions-Al₂O₃; Y₂O₃; MgAl₂O₄; and Yb(LaO)₂O₃-were sintered using a 24 GHz gyrotron system to a density above 0.98-0.99 of the theoretical value in 0.5-5 min without isothermal...
